Flemingo has launched its new ferry service between Colombo in Sri Lanka and Tuticorin, India and will add onboard duty free services next month.
Company Director Atul Ahuja told The Moodie Report that the single vessel, the MV Scotia Prince, made its first sailing from India on Monday night, followed by a return trip out of Colombo the following evening.
Flemingo is also running the ferry port duty free shop in Tuticorin and hopes to secure the Colombo contract too.
Flemingo leased the ferry after the retailer won a tender for the operation (including duty free onboard and in port) from the Shipping Corporation of India.
As reported, Flemingo is also well placed to be awarded a 50% share of the duty free concession at Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport previously held exclusively by the Aldeasa-run Orient Lanka.
Subject to final contract negotiations the two retailers will share space equally, each running 300sq m of space split between Departures and Arrivals.
