For Sri Lanka Passengers and other Tourists arriving from Colombo
Most of the Sri Lankans travelling to India head to Chennai and many others catchup local Flight or Train to other cities like Hyderbad, Bangalore, Delhi or Mumbai. Chennai is a familiar city with many sri lankans including Sinhalese Bhuddhist travellers who go on Pilgrimage To Northern India. Many business travellers also have established links in Chennai. For travelers with shopping intentions, Chennai has enough options, places and varieties.
Lanka India Ferry service launched recently with MV Scotia Prince only goes to port of Tuticorin which is almost 600 Km away in south from Chennai, yet closer to passengers traveling to Southern Tamil Nadu or Western Indian states like Kerala. Capital city of Kerala is less than 200 Km away and shorter to reach than from Chennai. Kanyakumari, Madurai and Coimbatore are also close cities.
The Ship arraives Tuticorin Port in the Morning, thus easier to catch up a linking Bus, Flight or Train. Train is the easisest, frequent and most economical. There are express Trains which reach Chennai within 5-6 hours and costing less than 1000 Sri Lankan Rupees. Trains on the other direction (Towards west and then towards North) also available. There are many such trains available daily, thus no risk of missing connections. For those heading to Buddhist Pilgrimage places in North, Delhi or Mumbai can also board a direct Train from Tuticorin as many express trains starting from Kerala or Kanyakumari in the South / West, pass through Tuticorin (For certain Trains You may have to travel by Bus to a Express station around 40 Km away from the Port City)
There is only 1 Flight available from Tuticorin Airport, that too fly in the middle of the night to Chennai and will cost very high. Private transport facilities could also be found but the cost will be always high.
(Please contact us for more information, Train / Bus Ticket Booking or arranged tours)
If you want to stay a Night at Tuticorin
Enough Economy class (3 star) Hotels available in Tuticorin, specially around the Main Bus Station area.It is not difficult to find a room there for a price around 1000 Sri Lankan rupees.
Where to EAT
You will most probably need to have breakfast at Tuticorin after immigration and Customs clearance. There are many such decent places available around the Jetty area itself and you will find plenty of Sea Food available for better prices, as Tuticorin is mainly a Fishing Town. (Earlier, it was famous for Pearls)
Welcome to new ferry service (not Scotia Prince) between India and Sri Lanka now Boarding..
